ARTS 333 - Art in the Ancient Régime

Second Semester. This course provides an overview of French painting, sculpture and architecture from the reign of King François I (1494-1547) to the execution of King Louis XVI in 1793. Although it will emphasize art made for the French court, the course will also give considerable attention to the careers of major French artists who worked in Rome (Poussin, Claude Lorrain) and the French provinces (Georges de la Tour).
