Study Away

Oberlin College and Conservatory embraces studying away as an integral part of the liberal arts education and a pivotal piece of academic development and career readiness. Study Away endeavors to support all interested students-irrespective of major, identity, or level of financial need-in finding a semester or year-long program that meets their academic, personal, and cultural interests. Study Away offers over 120 programs in more than 40 countries spread across six continents-including several programs in the United States.

Regardless of the institutional division in which they are enrolled, and of their declared major, minor, or concentration, any Oberlin student can transfer coursework completed abroad back to Oberlin to satisfy degree requirements. While studying away, students are also able to participate in internships, immersive language study, community engagement, research, performing arts, solidarity work, and much more. Over 400 Oberlin students participate each year in international programs during the academic year, including over Winter Term and summer.

In many cases, a student’s financial aid package on campus can transfer to their study away experience. Study Away also supports students in finding and applying for study-away specific scholarships that can help offset the travel-related costs of their programs. Contact Study Away, and not Financial Aid, for specific details.
