Residence Life

Oberlin offers a variety of housing options from first-year halls, which are mostly double rooms, traditional housing for upper-class students as large as 402 bed capacity and to small, family-like residential homes/apartments for students up to four students. The Office of Residence Life provides programming opportunities on student support, community-building, belonging and student engagement.

Housing options include single-gender and all-gender floors/halls; Living Learning Communities based on language, intercultural exchange and interest; and on-campus houses/apartments (available for those with six completed semesters at Oberlin).

Students are required to live in institution-owned residence halls/apartments/houses and to take their meals in institution-run dining halls through graduation. All students will participate in a housing selection process each spring (returning students) and during the summer (new-to-Oberlin students).

Campus dining offers a range of dining facilities with varied menus that include vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and many allergy-sensitive options. Dining services are managed by AVI Foodsystems, Inc.

College and conservatory students may also elect to house and dine with the Oberlin Student Cooperative Association (OSCA), an independent student-run non-profit association. This Oberlin student-run organization offers housing and dining options managed by Oberlin students.

Students new to Oberlin may occupy their rooms beginning the first day of Orientation. Returning or continuing students are permitted to return to campus two days prior to the start of classes. Meal service is provided at no additional cost to new students during orientation; continuing students may pay for meals in institution dining halls until the first regular board-plan meal begins.

Dining halls are open during the academic year, with reduced options during holidays, fall and spring breaks, and Winter Term. Dining is offered during Winter Break as a pay-to-participate option. Options for early return or break stay housing are offered by Residence Life.
