Aptitude and Achievement Tests

Oberlin has been test-optional since 2020. SAT and ACT score submissions will still be accepted but are not required for first-year and transfer applicants.

All applicants for whom English is neither their first language nor the primary language of secondary school instruction must submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Duolingo English Test (DET).

⇒ While there is no absolute minimum score on any of the above tests for Oberlin, applicants to the Bachelor of Music degree program who score lower than 60 on the internet-based TOEFL are less likely to be competitive applicants.

⇒ Applicants who score at least 100 iBT, 7 IELTS, or 125 DET are the most competitive for admission to the College of Arts and Sciences.
