FYSP 170 - Fabulous Histories/Factual Fictions: How Literature and History Inform Each Other
4 HU, WRi First semester. This seminar invites students to view literature and history not as mutually opposed, but as mutually informing disciplines. To this end, it will examine novels (like Salman Rushdie’s Shame and Toni Morrison’s Beloved) and historical analyses (like those by Hayden White and David Cohen) that deliberately cross boundaries presumed to define literature and history.
