EAST 131 - Early and Premodern Japan


3 SS, CD
First Semester. This course will cover major themes of Japanese history from the ancient period to the nineteenth century by exploring the social, political, cultural, and intellectual trends in society. We will use primary source materials in translation that detail life in early Japan, and supplement them with scholarly readings that improve our understanding of history as a discipline.
