HIST 110 - Latin American History: State and Nation Since Independence


3 SS, CD
Second Semester.  This course provides an introductory survey of Latin American history from the wars of independence in the early 19th century to the independent nations’ struggle to cope with the monumental issues of political legitimacy, economic growth, and social order throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding the material, political, class, racial, cultural, and gender struggles which have shaped Latin America’s independent states.
