POLT 316 - Seminar: Post-Communist Transformations 3 SS
Second Semester. This seminar will examine the attempts to create new political and economic systems in the post-Communist states, particularly
Russia and
Eastern Europe. Among the questions we will investigate are the following: What impacts do the institutional and cultural legacies of the Communist era have on post-Communist societies? What political, social, and economic factors best explain the different emerging outcomes? Are these outcomes likely to be democracy and capitalism, or something else entirely?
