POLT 233 - American Political Theory


4 SS
First Semester. A critical analysis of the main currents of American political theory from the Puritans to the present with particular emphasis on the Founding period. Traditional American political concepts are examined and re-evaluated in the light of late 20th-century conditions. Some attention is given to the development of an American science of politics and to problems of national and group identity.

Prerequisites & Notes
Each student must attend a discussion section either 1:30 or 2:30 Fridays. This is a core course in the Law and Society Program.
