4 HU First Semester. This class focuses on methods of generating material and shaping movement phrases toward the creation of solos and small group dances. Weekly studies are assigned, exploring the use of space, gesture, dynamics, rhythm, shape, and texture. Methods of composition include use of improvisation as well as an introduction to the basic forms of theme and variation, canon, and repetition. Readings, discussions, and performances are required.
