ARTS 331 - Spanish Painting in the Golden Age, 1500-1700

Second Semester.  This course provides an overview of Spanish painting from about 1500 to about 1700.  Among the artists to be studied are El Greco, Zurbarán, Ribera, and Velázquez.  Thematic material includes discussions of the relationship between art and national consciousness, the rise of the artist’s profession, and relationships between Iberian culture and those cultures “discovered” by the Conquistadores.  Not recommended for first-year students. 

Prerequisites & Notes
Prerequisite: One 200-numbered course in Art History or instructor’s consent.  Enrollment Limit: 40.  Mr. Hood.
