PHIL 352 - Seminar: Representation in Science

3HU

Second Semester. One of the liveliest areas of research in current philosophy of science revolves around the question of how representation proceeds in science. Aspects of this issue we will cover include: the role of models and modelling in science; representation in science versus representation in art; the idea that some scientific representations are fictions; and the bearing of all this on the question of whether our best scientific theories should be regarded as telling us the truth.
