First Semester.
This introductory class examines periods and events in the pre-modern and modern eras of Korean history in order to gain an in-depth understanding of what has ruptured, transformed and shaped everyday life and the political, economic and cultural landscapes of Korea. Among the topics discussed are ancient myths of Korea, Gender, Slavery and Choson Society, the Colonial Period, the Korean War, Democracy Movement in South Korea, Socialism in North Korea and the Politics of Reunification.
