RELG 237 - Buddhisms of India 3 HU, CD New Course added 07/06/2006
First Semester. From its beginning in India 2500 years ago Buddhism spread throughout Asia and in modern times has flourished around the world. This course will concentrate on the aspects of Indian Buddhist ideas, practices, and institutions that were important to all the later schools. We will study such topics as meditation, awakening, and practice in daily life through selections from original texts (in translation) and look at instances of living practice communities throughout Asia. Counts toward the East Asian Studies major.
