Second Semester. This course explores Chinese poetry from its inception to the end of the Song Dynasty (~13th c.), not only as an aesthetic form but also as a politically and socially potent force. Special attention will be paid to the development of Chinese literary criticism and to the various translation strategies for bridging the gap across disparate poetic traditions. No knowledge of Chinese language required.
Prerequisites & Notes Prerequisite: Prior course work in literary studies.
