MHST 321 - American Popular Music

Second Semester. A survey course on American popular music of the twentieth century, beginning with Tin Pan Alley, and covering country, rhythm and blues, rock ‘n’ roll, 1960s folk, punk, disco, rap, metal. Concentration will be on the place of popular music in our culture. Important topics will be the dissemination of popular music; class and social orientation of particular styles of popular music; the politics of popular music.



Prerequisites & Notes
Prerequisites: MHST 101 and one MHST 200-level course.
