GEOL 201 - Mineralogy & Optical Crystal

Lectures cover the principles of crystallography and crystal chemistry, the composition and structure of rock forming minerals, and the mode of occurrence and associations of minerals. Laboratories include crystal symmetry, identification of minerals in hand specimens, theory and use of the petrographic microscope for the identification of minerals, and theory and use of x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy for the identification of minerals.
