HIST 339 - Motion Picture Censorship Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3 SS
American movies posed a sharp challenge to traditional concepts of moral standards and artistic expression. This colloquium explores how various segments of the American public mobilized to contain this subversive new medium, how Hollywood responded in order to preserve its creativity and markets, how formal censorship systems affected film content, and how censorship structures unraveled in the 1950’s and 60’s.
