Survey of Jewish history from biblical origins through the medieval period in Christian and Islamic realms. Covers biblical society, ideas and literature; Hellenistic and Roman rule in Judea; Jewish sects of the Second Temple period, including early Christianity; emergence and development of rabbinic Judaism; Jewish political attitudes toward non-Jews and the authorities; Christianity and Islam and the Jews; community and family; medieval Jew-hatred and Jewish responses during the Crusades, expulsions, popular judeophobia. Enrollment Limit: 30.
