RELG 236 - Japanese Thought and Religion Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3 HU, CD
A survey of the development of Shinto and Buddhism in Japan and the roles they play in Japanese culture and society. Among the topics discussed are the ancient myths of Shinto, the transmission of Buddhism to Japan, the emergence of native forms of Buddhism (e.g. Zen, Pure Land, and Nichiren), and the use of Shinto as a nationalistic ideology.
