The sacred text is central to both Buddhism and Taoism, but how they
understand what constitutes a text and what use they make of the text are quite different. In addition to covering the basic teachings of both religions, the class will study questions of canon formation, ritual use of texts and hermenuetics as it reads historical primary texts.
