BIOL 333 - Use of Mammalian Cell Culture in Research

An introduction to the principles and techniques for culturing mammalian cells. The overall goal is to teach practical laboratory skills so that students can function independently in a research lab. Topics include lab safety; adherent and suspension cells; media preparation; contaminant detection; cryopreservation; proliferation assays; and  apoptosis detection and use of antibodies to detected cellular molecules. Students are expected to work independently for three to four hours per week in addition to the scheduled group meetings.  Enrollment Limit: 8.
