FYSP 194 - The Sixth Extinction: Problems and Prospects in Biodiversity Conservation

We will explore the challenges and opportunities surrounding the conservation of biodiversity, using readings from a wide variety of sources as well as several weekend afternoon field trips to sites of local conservation interest. Among the topics we will discuss are the value of biodiversity, current threats to biodiversity, the impacts of legislation and conservation management decisions on biodiversity, the feasibility of saving species and restoring degraded habitat, and ways to encourage participation in biodiversity conservation. Enrollment limit: 14.
