LOND 915 - The Psychology of Environmental Sustainability and Collapse Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 6 Hours Attribute: 6 SS
Many researchers argue that the human race has now come to an important decision point in its history. Given limited fossil-fuel resources, population growth, levels of consumption, and rapid climate change we face the possibility of societal collapse. The course explores the factors that lead to the collapse of societies, how societies and people cope with the knowledge of impending disaster, and the choices and factors that lead people to either successfully make the transition to a sustainable situation or collapse. Activities include museum visits to discuss the rise and fall of cultures, expert visitors to discuss the psychology of loss and the psychological effects associated with resource scarcity, and meetings with government officials and environmental activists, and environmental researchers to discuss moving Britain to a position of environmental sustainability. Instructor: S. Mayer Prerequisites & Notes No previous knowledge of art or contemporary art is required for this course.
