Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours An analytical study of selected symphonies by 19th-century composers, including Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Bruckner, and Mahler. Particular attention will be given to the concept of “sonata deformation,” whereby composers deform the 18th-century sonata paradigm for particular expressive purposes.
