Marguerite Duras’ (1914-1996) prolific creation of literary and cinematographic work stems from her persistent writing and rewriting the myriad intersections of life, love, death, and memory, even as she acknowledges the insufficiency of the word. Our reading of Duras’ films and literary works will consider her characterizations of writing; the fusion of history, autobiography and fiction; the dialogue between East and West; and the continuum between the verbal and the visual. Enrollment Limit: 12.
