HIST 274 - How Societies Remember: History and Memory in 20th Century Europe and the Soviet Union Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3 SS
Focusing on the Bolshevik Revolution, the two world wars, the Holocaust, and the collapse of communism, this course explores the relationship between politics, identity, and memory in representations of the past. Using scholarship, literature, film, and art we examine how these events have been represented in official and unofficial practices and by groups and individuals. We also consider how societies deal with collective trauma/ responsibility and the role of memory as resistance. Enrollment Limit: 25. Instructor: J. Massino
