This course will pay close attention to poetry’s efforts to find new forms and modes of expression in a world overshadowed by unthinkable acts and unspeakable experience. How have lyric poets undertaken to employ their art to give voice to what appears to be, by definition, unutterable? Lowell, Bishop, Plath, Heaney, Ashbery, Graham. American OR British (not both), Post-1900. Enrollment Limit: 25. Instructor: D. Harrison Prerequisites & Notes Two 200-level courses, including at least one Gateway course; or three 200-level courses.
