During the first decades of the last century, Russian theater both fomented and endured revolution. Chekhov revitalized the art of playwriting, while Stanislavsky and Meyerhold developed new methods in actor training that continue to influence contemporary performers. Constructivist and Futurist stage designers transferred their artistic experiments from the canvas to the stage. This course will focus on these and other innovations, and will explore how playwrights and theater practitioners responded to the actual revolution of 1917. Instructor: J. Kaminer
