LOND 917 - Ecological Design Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 6 Hours Attribute: 6 SS
A course in ecological design based on London as a 2000-year design project. Ecological design is the art and science of making objects and systems that fit harmoniously in their ecological and cultural context. The course will study some of London’s most famous historical architecture and landscapes reflecting the work of Wren, Brown, and Nash, but will emphasize more recent work on ecological design and place-making including BEDZED, the Eden Project (Cornwall), the Swiss Re building and the work of Norman Foster and Richard Rogers. Fundamental to this course is the adaptation of the London region to challenges of climate change. Instructor: D. Orr Prerequisites & Notes Counts for the SS requirement for the ENVS major.
