FYSP 174 - Literary Journalism

Literary journalism marries the techniques of literature with the skills of journalism, and it has been practiced for centuries. We will read examples of this genre from the 18th century on, paying particular attention to the contemporary moment. We will study writings by, amongst others, Daniel DeFoe, Jack London, George Orwell, Rebecca West, Tom Wolfe, Joan Didion David Foster Wallace, John McPhee, Lawrence Weschler and Adrian Nicole LeBlanc. There will be equal focus on reading and writing. Enrollment Limit: 14.
