HIST 334 - Comparative Cultural Encounters in North America

This seminar examines Spanish, French, Dutch, and British encounters with the native peoples of North America during the initial centuries of colonization: 1492-1800. We will compare various attitudes and behaviors that shaped colonial contests with native peoples, and the range of native responses to different European empires and their colonists.
