MENA 101 - Introduction to Middle East and North Africa Studies

Civilization in the Middle East and North Africa is richly layered with many cultures and faiths. This interdisciplinary introduction provides analytical frameworks drawn from the social sciences and humanities to understand geopolitical, intellectual and artistic continuity and change in this region. A selection of texts on pre-modern and modern political, economic, intellectual, and institutional history of the region will be studied, with occasional films to help understand artistic and ritualistic life in this region. Enrollment limit, 25.
