HIST 335 - Gender and Labor in Early America Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3 SS, CD
This seminar explores how seventeenth and eighteenth century European assumptions about women’s place favored the development of distinct labor practices. Using case studies, we will investigate how northern and southern women, black and white women, and enslaved and dependent women participated in domestic, reproductive, and agricultural labor. We will also examine how these women maneuvered to establish or to extend their place in colonial America. Enrollment Limit: 12. Instructor: R. Chopra
