POLT 111 - Democratization in Latin America: The Argentine Experience

Analysis of developments related to democratization in the region, viewed through the experience of Argentina since the 1970s. Political development in Argentina reflects a variety of issues that are, and continue to be, major concerns for many countries in the region . We shall explore legacies of authoritarianism, contemporary populism, challenges of economic reform, citizen security and justice issues in the Argentine case, with reference to parallels in other parts of the region. Lecture, discussion, and film screenings. Enrollment Limit: 30.
