Analysis of developments related to democratization in the region, viewed through the experience of Argentina since the 1970s. Political development in Argentina reflects a variety of issues that are, and continue to be, major concerns for many countries in the region . We shall explore legacies of authoritarianism, contemporary populism, challenges of economic reform, citizen security and justice issues in the Argentine case, with reference to parallels in other parts of the region.
