ARTS 322 - Modern Art, 1900-1960 Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3 HU
Modern art in Europe and the Americas from the emergence of the avant-garde in Paris to its redefinition as Modernism in the United States. Major movements and protagonists will be discussed not only in terms of form and style, but also historical developments and events. Key issues include: defining the avant-garde; mass media and culture; the relationship of the avant-garde to revolutionary movements, totalitarian states, and democratic society; and the gender politics of modern art.
