ARTS 334 - Art and Politics in Weimar Germany, 1918-1933 Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3 HU
This course examines painting, photography, architecture, and design as products of historical crisis and objects of debate, closely examining such artists as Otto Dix, George Grosz, John Heartfield, Hannah Höch, Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer, Grete Lihotzky, and Mies van der Rohe. Recurring themes include the efforts of artists to be politically relevant, the question of tradition, the representation of war, of gender and of class, and the relationships between art, technology, and mass culture.
