Using both historical and contemporary sources including film, this course examines the history of North Korea and Cuba before and after the revolutions. How did the revolutions affect gender relations, the status of women, the economy, domestic and international politics, cultural production, and everyday life? By understanding North Korea and Cuba in comparative perspective, we go beyond a national or regional history for a look into marginalized histories. Enrollment Limit: 25. Instructor: S. Kim
