ETHN 303 - Organology: Musical Instrument Research Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 New course added 11.1.2007
This is a continuation ETHN 302. Anyone enrolled in ETHN 302 may continue in ETHN 303, but new students will be accepted as well. This course will combine theoretical and practical approaches to provide an overview of instruments worldwide, an understanding of the basic physics of sound, and hands-on experience cataloging and classifying all of the non-western instruments in Oberlin's collection. Students will work collaboratively on a web-based catalog of the instuments with photos and sound, and an ongoing display of the actual instuments in the showcase in the Science Center lobby.
