This intermediate-level course examines the political, social, and cultural forces that changed Europe in the decades following the end of World War II. Using a variety of media as sources, we will examine defining events like the Cold War, decolonization, the upheavals of 1968, the rise of the welfare state, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the Yugoslavian wars. Throughout, we will pay special attention to the notion of “Europe” as a unifying identity. Enrollment Limit: 40. Instructor: A. Sammartino
