This is one of two courses introducing algebraic structures and techniques fundamental to mathematics and useful in many areas of science and engineering. Topics include: rings, subrings, ideals, fields, integral domains, polynomial rings, extension fields, finite fields, famous impossible constructions and Galois theory. Instructor: E.
