This course deals with the origins of human society in Africa; the rise of organized social, commercial and political systems; Egypt and other classical African civilizations and empires; traditional religions, Christianity and Islam in Africa; the trans-Atlantic slave trade and its impact on African societies and trading systems; the under-development of Africa by the end of the slave trade.
