Through an examination of films that reflect upon vital issues in Russia today (crime, the super-rich, Chechnya, rural life, the Soviet past), we will explore how filmmakers shaped new images of and for a ‘New Russia.’ How innovative is post-Soviet cinema and how broad is its appeal?
