Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 2 to 3 Hours An interpretive survey of American politics, society, and culture from the post-Civil War era to the present. Emphasis on modes of historical analysis and important scholarly controversies. The course introduces students to a variety of approaches to the study of history, and develops student capacities to read both primary and secondary materials. Students write at least one research paper. Prerequisites & Notes Prerequisites: Strong performance in previous social studies and English courses. Equivalent to History 104.
