TECH 110 - Digital Art and Public Space: Installation and Production

Semester Offered: First Semester
Credits (Range): 3
The public sphere is always changing, and with the introduction of digital/electronic dynamics to the world of art-making, public space has changed dramatically. Artists are constantly defining and questioning the dynamics of this space, from the internet down to the sidewalk. In this course we will examine theory about what “public space” is, and how, as artists, we alter the meanings of “public” and “private.”

The fall semester will focus on Installation and Production.  We will survey important electronic and experimental art works that have used installation or audio/video work to explore the public sphere.  Culminating installation and audio/video production pieces will count towards the student’s grade in this class, along with weekly readings and listening/viewings.

(Students from all majors welcome, no prior experience necessary, although prior video editing experience is suggested.)
Instructor: J. Christensen
