PHIL 369 - Seminar: Theory of Emotion

Semester Offered: Second Semester
Credits (Range): 3 hours
Attribute: 3HU, WR

This course is canceled effective 11.09.2008.

In this course, we will critically assess different accounts of what an emotion is?whether just a brute feeling, a special kind of judgment or desire combined with feeling, or some other, distinct mode of awareness. In the process, we will consider whether emotions must always have a cognitive component, and what distinguished emotions from sensations, moods, and reflex reactions. Then we will consider the role of emotions in our lives, specifically their role in motivation and the formation of value judgments.
