RELG 234 - Buddhist Thought and Practice in India and Tibet

This course explores the origins and development of Buddhism in north India 2500 years ago and surveys its expansion into across and beyond the subcontinent into Tibet and Sri Lanka. The course will consider important Buddhist concepts and examine primary texts from several schools in South Asia and Tibet. We will look at Tibetan Buddhist history and practice in some depth, as well as contemporary socially-engaged Buddhist movements. Enrollment limit: 35. Instructor: L. McMillin
