This course examines the evolution of the EU, its current institutions, and conflicts in Britain over EU policy, including the decision to retain the pound, Britain’s neo-liberal policies, the “democracy deficit” in the EU, and unease over recent EU expansion and the waves of immigration if has generated. We will also explore Britain’s “Atlanticist” (pro0US) foreign policy, which has been at odds with core EU members who call for a more independent European foreign policy. Instructor: S. Crowley
