MHST 324 - Brahms and His World Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 2 Attribute: DDHU
This course uses the life and works of Johannes Brahms as a lens through which to examine German and Austrian musical life during the mid- and late-nineteenth century. Scholarly readings will illustrate biographical, contextual, personal, and analytical approaches that students will combine and evaluate in papers, presentations, and class discussion. Topics will include Brahms the Man, Brahms the Composer, Brahms the Performer, Brahms the Music Scholar and Student of the Arts, the Social Brahms: Friendship and Travel, and Brahms in Perspective.
