ENGL 227 - “The Spirit of the Age”: Romantics and Their World Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 4 Hours Attribute: 4 HU, WR What were the “proper” subjects of literary consideration during the Romantic period and who was expected to address them? What were the roles of gender, social class, and nationality in deciding such issues? As we ponder such questions, we will pay close attention to the formal and generic attributes of a broad range of literary texts, from poetry to fiction to critical prose. Authors include Blake, Wordsworth, Walter Scott, Mary and Percy Shelley, Byron, and Keats. British, 1700-1900. Enrollment Limit: 30 Instructor: N.
